What does it really mean to be a Christian?

Someone once used the picture of crossing a bridge. The bridge is Jesus and he came to bridge the gap between us and God caused by sin so that we can begin a relationship with God.

But where is the journey going to take us?

What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus, a Christian?

 The Journey with God

God never promised that the journey would always be easy. In fact at times you may find it more difficult than going your own way, but the good news is that even when at times it's hard, we will never be alone as God will always be with us. And in truth, life isn’t easy anyway, whether we live it with God’s help or without it!

It is the beginning of a great adventure an adventure which will bring you peace and joy and inner contentment, as well as a new outlook on life and the world around you. The Christian life has been described as a splash of colour in an otherwise monochrome world. Christians are not perfect … but are aiming to understand God’s love for them more and more and living in the experience of that day by day.

If we are going to be successful in this journey then we need to let God be the boss. Now to some that might sound like bad news but in reality is the best news ever. Yes he can make the decisions, with all his godly wisdom and kindness, but he also takes the responsibility and can see the big picture of our lives. When we let God be God, it’s like a train which has derailed getting back on track. It is getting things the way that they are meant to be. It’s saying to God that we want him to be in control, to make our lives what they were intended to be with him guiding and leading us in ways that are good.

God will help you stay on the right path and it will affect every area of your life for the better. It will affect your family life, your work life, and your social life.

You may find there are certain things you don’t want to do anymore. Certain habits that you no longer want in your life, certain places you no longer want to go. Don’t be surprised! Your life will “under new management” when you chose to go God’s way and not just follow in your own way.
